The purpose of this webpage is to connect believers looking for house churches (or simple churches, organic churches, microchurches, ekklesia, or whatever you want to call them) in Jacksonville with the growing network of house churches in the area.For a number of reasons, we do not publicly post a list of meeting times/places; if you would like to connect, simply send an introductory email to [email protected], and we can discuss opportunities for fellowship in the area.And if you already have a fellowship in the area, please let us know! We are not an organization in a corporate sense but rather a relationally connected network of believers who seek to gather as the body of Christ in the Jacksonville area in simple and Scriptural ways.There is actually no such thing as "Jax House Churches" as an organization; but there are house churches in Jacksonville, and jaxhousechurches.com exists as a tool to help connect believers with house churches and house churches with one another.
"What We Believe"
The basis of our unity is not a tightly crafted creed or doctrinal statement but our commitment to Christ and his Word and our experience of the Spirit. As individuals, we may not see eye to eye on everything, but on minor points we value unity over unanimity. And on major points, we are united because they are clear enough for all to see.
About House Churches
If you have found this website, you probably have some idea of what house churches are. And we won't try to give the definitive statement of it here. But, in general, we believe:– Church is fundamentally PEOPLE, not buildings, a corporate organization, or its programming.
– Churches typically meet in small, informal, relational, open, and participatory gatherings (usually in homes), not scripted, highly-orchestrated performances put on by a few individuals for a large, passive audience.
– Churches are connected as communities and relational networks, not as corporate organizations.
– Christ is the head of the church, not human leaders. (Human leadership is decentralized.)
– The Holy Spirit leads the church; human leaders follow his lead and are examples and servants to the body. (Human leadership is spiritual, not fleshly.)
– Human leaders are people, not positions. (Human leadership is non-bureaucratic.)
– Human leaders lead through persuasion and influence, not by a position of authority. (Human leadership is non-hierarchical.)
– The priesthood of ALL believers; no clergy-laity distinction
– Unity, not denominationalism, division, and competition
– Above all else, church is FAMILY!In short, we believe the New Testament church is a model for us today.
